About the Author

W.H. Frank was born in Mt. Vernon, Ohio on December 20, 1817. His father died when he was 7, leaving behind him and his now widowed mother. At the age of 10 years, Frank lived with Mr. Baker Plummer, a brother of Phillip Plummer. He had a hotel in Mt. Vernon. When Frank was 11 years old, he went to live with Dr. John P. Brookins, through the recommendation of Mr. Baker Plummer. The Doctor was a physician and druggist in Mt. Vernon and set the boy to work in his drug store, where Frank learned to use the pestle and mortar. He lived with the Doctor and came with him to Richwood in 1832. After building a log cabin for his mother, he eventually left for Marysville to learn a trade in 1833. W.H. Frank then married his wife, Rachael, and they remained in Marysville for 60 years. Eventually they moved to Romeyn, Nebraska. The Richwood Gazette interviewed him when he was 83 years old. His death date is currently unknown.
