Six transportation experts conduct a historical and contemporary tour<-->via car, bus, rail, tram, and subway<-->through the congested urban centers of Great Britain and Toronto, Canada, and equally convoluted public transport governing policies. Despite efforts to alleviate the situation and minimize environmental impact through, for example, monopolization of London's public transport, the editors note that "in some cases the remedy has been worse than the malady." The bottom line for metropolitan transport policy into a future realistically not devoid of autos is enlightened planning and investing.
