She sat beneath an old willow.
Her skin brown of a young, wild Earth
The parting of her lips invited
beneath the blindfold over her eyes.

"Man of marble,
Son of stone.
Rocks you cobble
into your road to Rome.
I tasted the innocent blood you spilled
and smelled the villages aflame.
All for the revenge against what fate tilted
away from you and wrought your shame.
These trees have touched you like I will
for it is curiosity and compassion
that compels me to reach and gently feel
what hollows a man on his mission.
Man of marble
Son of stone.
Are you unstoppable?
Or is innocence not gone?"

Bob Blake grew up on a cattle ranch in northern Arizona. He earned his B.S. in English Secondary Education from NAU in 2012. He is back to working on the ranch with reading and writing on the side alongside participating in local community theater.

Derek Pashano is a talented illustrator/cartoonist also in the Arizona area. He is the creator of Capgun Comics.
