Although one might think that all the military tales of U.S. soldiers in Vietnam have been told, "Three Days Past Yesterday: A Black Woman's Journey Through Incredibility" proves that there is more to tell. Using poetry and prose, Doris I. "Lucki" Allen reveals the untold story of a black woman soldier in Vietnam. She served in military intelligence, fighting for the respect of her male peers while supplying information that could save their lives. "Three Days Past Yesterday" is not only a military tale. It is an American tale as the author paints pictures of America and of the sensibilities that she took with her to Vietnam, which include her Southern roots and experiences in a segregated America. She lets us know that the legacy of Vietnam lives on, as she and many others continue to live with PTSD and other invisible wounds of war.
