EXCERPT FROM THE PHANTOM DIARIES
Dear Diary,
Most of the night was spent dreaming of this Phantom. I would never admit it to anyone, but I believe I m enamored with this legendary figure. The strange goings-on at the Opera House are eerie, but I m always eager to go back.
My name is Annette Binoche. I am 18 years old, straight out of school and the new seamstress assistant at the New York Metropolitan Opera House. I am lucky to find this job. But not in a million years can I imagine I would become the lead singer in the new opera and become drawn into a dangerous life-and-death plot of some crazed phantom whose wrath spanned centuries across two continents.
The tragic incidence at the Paris Opera House where the Phantom had haunted has been over a hundred years ago. Yet, everyone claims this is the same phantom who now terrorize the New York Opera House. I would leave, but I love it here...New York, the Opera, this job, and then there is Eric, who seems a little older than me, but knows the music better than anyone. As my self-appointed vocal coach, he has brought out a side of me I never knew exists. There is something about Eric.
