About the Author

Jane O’Connor is an editor at a major publishing house who has written more than seventy books for children, including the New York Times bestselling Fancy Nancy series. She resides (that’s fancy for lives) with her family in New York City.

Robin Preiss Glasser has illustrated many acclaimed picture books, including the bestselling Fancy Nancy series, Lambslide, Escape Goat, and Grand Jeté and Me: A Christmas Holiday Book for Kids. She won the Children’s Choice Award for Best Illustrator of the Year for Fancy Nancy and the Mermaid Ballet. Robin actually wore tiaras and tutus when she danced with the Pennsylvania Ballet. Now she happily spends her days in jeans, drawing. Robin and her family live in Southern California.

In each story, Nancy comes up against a world that insists on suppressing her affinity for fanciness. For example, she succeeds in fancying up her family for a night on the town, only to be tripped up by her own extravagance; she's forced to miss her best friend's butterfly birthday party when she has to attend her grandparents' 50th wedding anniversary get-together; she longs to be cast as a glamorous mermaid in the ballet, but instead is given a role as a dull willow tree. Each story is performed with adorable enthusiasm by 10-year-old Chloe Hennessee, and enhanced minimally by occasional sound effects, such as a dog barking or glass breaking. As narrator, Hennessee is authoritative but not bossy as she explains the meanings of the many fancy (and often French) words Nancy uses. Sound effects enhance the production.
