About the Author

Zuza Zak learnt the art of cooking from an early age, from her beloved grandmas. In her previous writing (Polska, Amber & Rye and Pierogi), and her food-focused PhD at the School of Slavonic and East European Studies (UCL), Zuza explores food in the context of identity, society and culture, using storytelling to delve into cuisines and their cultures. Having worked in TV for 8 years, Zuza is especially keen on promoting her work through this medium. You can currently see Zuza across Europe and the Middle East presenting Polish food in Food Network Finds: Poland. During the Polish launch of Polska, Zuza took part in a live breakfast TV broadcast – Dzień Dobry TVN – watched by millions of Poles.

What People are Saying About This

From the Publisher

"Beautifully written and thoroughly researched, this book has so much heart and soul that the very act of reading it feels deeply healing, nourishing and transformative."
— Alissa Timoshkina, author of Salt & Time

"This is a book that will enrich your life with folk tales, ancient wisdom and slavic culture and history we know so little about. A book to read and learn from and a book to cook from. Certainly, the book I have been waiting for to live more consciously and intuitively and more in tune with nature and traditions. A book with a lot of soul."
— Regula Ysewijn, food writer and author of seven books including Oats in the North, Wheat from the South.
