About the Author

The author, Madelaine D. Lang, was born in Hungary in 1924. As a young Jewish girl she enjoyed all the privileges of being integrated into upper middle class society. Then everything changed with the onset of World War II. Leaving everything behind she escaped with her family to Budapest and subsequently went into hiding with false papers. Her second book, Rowing into the Melting Pot and Reaching for the American Dream, describes her experiences upon leaving Hungary, what she discovered about life in the U.S.A. and how she managed to successfully rebuild her life.
