Overview

Life in the Oklahoma Panhandle in the late 1800s was difficult. Buddy Roberts, unloved and unwanted by a mother who dotes on his brother, longs to be a cowboy.

The neighboring rancher tells him, "When you can lasso a prairie dog, I'll hire you." Buddy is determined to meet that goal even when discouraged by obstacles.

About the Author

Meet Vivian Gilbert Zabel

When Vivian Zabel listened to her husband’s stories of working on his family farm, becoming a cowboy, and breaking horses, she wanted to be able to incorporate those into a book. With her love of history, and a challenge to write a novel dealing with frontier life, she discovered where to use those stories. Prairie Dog Cowboy was born.

Vivian traveled all over the world with her military father, but Oklahoma was always home. With her three children grown and living in West Virginia, Washington, and Oklahoma, and her husband no longer alive, she now lives in western Oklahoma.
