Overview

In this edition of 'Patterson Chronicles' Robert Pip Paterson is a young man of 25 years of age. A new frontiersman, Howie Karger has joined Pip and his Mohican Blood-Brother, Keme, from the colony of New Jersey. They become a reliable trio of scouts for the British Army. This book begins with the beginning of the French and Indian War or known to the French as La Guerre de la Conquête (The War of Conquest). Pip is re-united with a childhood friend, now grown to manhood, and a lieutenant in the British Army, Douglas Kingston. Douglas introduces Pip and Howie to his two sisters, Diane and Rowena. They form unconventional relationships that provide healthy diversions from the hardships of war. The Kingston Family resides in Albany with their eminent father, Lord Cecil Kingston. There are two additional characters from the French side of this war that play a role in the lives of these four men; Lieutenant-Colonel Etienne Foucais and Mademoiselle Francois Bardot. Their presence at Fort Carillon on Lake Champlain intersects and entwines with those of Pip and his three friends. This chapter of Pip Paterson's life sees the battles of the Supply Train Ambush, the January Battle on Snowshoes, the Battle of Sabbath Day Point leading up to the Massacre of Fort William Henry. They fight, win and escape from their enemies of the French and Indians, and the arrogance of the British Command. It is a question which will see them killed.
