CHAPTER 1

The Story

Patty O'Burger is from Brooklyn New York. Her mom is Filet Mignon and her dad is Pot Roast. Patty's parents own a diner right under the Brooklyn Bridge with a great view of Manhattan. She is the oldest of three burgers. Her sister Kobe is very pretty and quite popular and her brother Angus is the star of the burger football team. Patty dreams about visiting France and she wants to make her dreams come true. She reads all the books possible on France. She is so impressed France makes over 300 cheeses! Patty has always worn American cheese as her hair and thinks France can expand her current choices.

Patty knows Dunbar Wholesale Produce Distribution exports Produce every Tuesday from New York to Paris. She plots her plan to hide in a crate of tomatoes that is being shipped to Paris. On Monday night she tells her family she needs to chase her dream but will miss them and loves them very much au revoir. The family helps her get settled into the tomato crate and Patty's mom packs her a New York bagel for the journey!

Patty didn't realize how long her trip would take to get to Paris. She dozes off and then feels a great jolt as the aircraft lands in Paris!

Patty is so excited! She is unloaded from the plane and put into another truck. As the truck goes along the road, she can finally peek out and can see a glimpse of the Eiffel Tower! She had seen so many pictures of it and now it brings a tear to her eye.

The truck stops right in front of the Eiffel Tower at Café Suffren. She knows it will be tricky to get out of the tomato crate and not to be seen. The manager, Pierre, is shouting at the workers where to place the boxes. Patty is confused as to what Pierre is saying. She has learned only a few French words, for example, bonjour and merci. As Pierre is yelling, it gives her an opportunity to slip out of the crate. She can see the sign for "toilettes" which means bathroom so she sneaks inside to get ready. She had packed slices of American cheese and will make her hair long so she looks like a movie star. She opens up the ketchup packet and applies it on her lips and then gives a pinch on her cheeks to give a red glow and finally puts on a scarf made of bacon.

She picks a table with a perfect view of the Eiffel Tower. It is May, warm and beautiful. "Bonjour monsieur, une table pour une hamburger". The waiter says "bien sûr mademoiselle". She reviews the menu and can't understand anything and is about to cry. A handsome Franck Frites introduces himself and offers to help her with the menu. He explains frites means french fry in French! He says "do you speak English"? Patty responds "yes, I do and can't speak French". Franck leans over and says "ma belle, I can order for you". He invites her to sit at his table. He is captivated with her beautiful silky hair, beautiful blue eyes, and her scarf smelled devine. He can't believe he has meet such a wonderful American cheeseburger.

Patty is thinking the same, she can't believe she meet such a wonderful French fry. He has on his beret and has a neat moustache. He is so polite and when he speaks French her heart just beats. He is so sophisticated in her mind. She only knows American fries and this is her first experience meeting a true French fry.

Lunch

Franck shares a lovely meal of French Onion Soup and a baguette. Patty loved it since she has only had American bread or a bagel and had never tasted French onion soup! Franck suggested they share a beautiful éclair for dessert. It was full of chocolate. She realized she is so happy with her choice to take a chance to come to Paris. After lunch, Franck suggested it was time for sightseeing.
