Avrupa tarihinde, Orta Çağ (veya ortaçağ dönemi) 5. ile 15. yüzyıllar arasında sürmüştür. Batı Roma İmparatorluğu'nun yıkılışıyla başladı ve Rönesans ve Keşif Çağı ile birleşti. Orta Çağ, Batı tarihinin üç geleneksel bölümünün orta dönemidir: klasik antik dönem, orta çağ dönemi ve modern dönem.
