Purpose: The book retains the elements of a classic research textbook and introduces important innovations that will help shape the future of nursing research. There are two new chapters: one is on quality improvement and improvement science to discuss methods and frameworks that can be used to develop and assess improvement projects; the second new chapter concerns the applicability, generalizability, and relevance of research evidence and describes a range of strategies for generating practice-based evidence that is patient-centered. Given the rapid expansion of interprofessional practice and patient-centered care efforts to improve patient outcomes, the updated content in the new chapters justifies the need for a new edition. The printed book and online resources meet the objective of the new book.
