Description: This book and its companion website integrate the basic sciences with the systems of the human body, linking this information to clinical pathologies. The previous edition was published in 2009.
Purpose: The purpose is to provide updated medical sciences information while avoiding the chemical formulas and physical equations physicians are unlikely to use. One of the key features of this book is the conciseness of the anatomy, physiology, and genetic science concepts and their application to common clinical conditions.
Audience: The book is written for medical students who have a firm grasp of undergraduate sciences required for medical school, but some physicians may find this a handy reference.
Features: It covers homeostasis, biochemistry, pharmacology, genetics, pathology and immunology, anatomy, and the various body systems. Each chapter begins with a list of key and associated topics followed by an introduction. Illustrations, tables, and information boxes help reinforce key concepts, and clinical boxes help correlate the topic to clinical conditions. The book is really well done.
Assessment: This is an excellent book for medical students and practitioners. The accompanying online assessment area is also a nice tool to ensure readers understand key chapter concepts.
