Overview

Lullaby Magic is a starry-eyed collection of folk-tinged lullabies, each performed with tender, loving care by Joanie Bartels. Often accompanied only by guitar or piano, Bartels gives each song real feeling, as opposed to the trend in children's music to only do what's necessary and not what's needed to make the music matter. Even if it's designed to help you go to sleep, that doesn't mean it needs to be boring. The song choice is interesting, too -- in addition to a handful of well-known traditionals like "Rock-A-Bye Baby," Bartels tackles the Beatles' "Good Night." While Lullaby Magic is certainly a great way to get your child to bed, it also encourages singing along by repeating its program in an instrumental format. ~ Johnny Loftus
