Le avventure di Pinocchio (The Adventures of Pinocchio) is a 1883 novel by Carlo Lorenzini (pen name: Carlo Collodi). He started publishing it in a newspaper for children in 1880. It is the humorous tale full of adventures of an animated marionette, called Pinocchio, and his manufacturer and father, Geppetto. It is considered a truly great classic of children's literature and has infiltrated the young minds of every virtually every child raised within the Western culture ever since it was published.

Carlo Collodi (pen name for Carlo Lorenzini (24 November, 1826 – 26 October 1890) was an Italian children's writer known for the world-renowned fairy tale novel, Le avventure di Pinocchio (The Adventures of Pinocchio). His early works were politically involved but starting from 1875, he mainly published children's literature.
He started writing Pinocchio in 1880 and published it in installments in the weekly newspaper Il Giornale per i Bambini, the first Italian newspaper targeting children.
Carlo Lorenzini is born in and died in Florence, Italy.
