Killing England: The Brutal Struggle for American Independence by Bill O'Reilly, Martin Dugard

The Revolutionary War as never told before.

The breathtaking latest installment in Bill O’Reilly and Martin Dugard’s mega-bestselling Killing series transports readers to the most important era in our nation’s history, the Revolutionary War. Told through the eyes of George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, and Great Britain’s King George III, Killing England chronicles the path to independence in gripping detail, taking the reader from the battlefields of America to the royal courts of Europe. What started as protest and unrest in the colonies soon escalated to a world war with devastating casualties. O’Reilly and Dugard recreate the war’s landmark battles, including Bunker Hill, Long Island, Saratoga, and Yorktown, revealing the savagery of hand-to-hand combat and the often brutal conditions under which these brave American soldiers lived and fought. Also here is the reckless treachery of Benedict Arnold and the daring guerilla tactics of the “Swamp Fox” Frances Marion. A must read, Killing England reminds one and all how the course of history can be changed through the courage and determination of those intent on doing the impossible.

I have read all in the Killing series and this one does not disappoint. I have been reading history all my life and am always happy with the details this series provides, some shocking! This area of our nations history was not deeply taught in my public education and I had never heard this much detail on the Burr treachery and on Francis Marion's more impressive contribution to our winning our Independence. Well worth the quick read.

Bill O'Reilly and Martin Dugard are well known for their great "killing' series of books. "Killing England" is the latest, and easily rises to their usual high standard. The writing makes the complex issues of the American Revolution come alive. The easy narrative format makes this history a great read. It also does a great job of detailing what life was like at this time. It was often hard, and in the execution of war, it was down right brutal. Even knowing the outcome of this conflict, it sometimes seems it will be impossible for it to end the way it did. The subject was well researched, and brings out many details that most of us would not have known or remembered. There is a Postscript that covers the remaining years of the characters to complete the story of these amazing events. A great read that will not disappoint.
