About the Author

Peggy Haile McPhillips is a lifelong resident of Norfolk, Virginia, and Historian for the City of Norfolk. She holds a B.A. in English literature from Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, Virginia. She works on the Boards of the Norfolk Historical Society, Friends of Historic Houses of the Chrysler Museum of Art, Norfolk Police Museum and Great Bridge Battlefield & Historic Waterways Foundation; and on the Hermitage Museum Collections Committee and the Diversity Committee of Norfolk Botanical Garden. She is a contributing writer to several local publications.
