The story began long before a migration to Australia in the 1950's. An autobiography by George Lazarou, who as a child didn't recognise he had a father until the age of six. His mother and father made a commitment to live apart in different countries for three years, to forge a better life for their 7 children. His father's intrusion, re-unification; brought with it a new set of dynamics.
.Over time, he settled, married and had children. The original intention of this publication was to provide a family history for the children of the marriage as they struggled to remember their mother who died at a tragically young age. At its core is a collection of memories of a life back in Greece, and of life growing up in a rural town in the central west of NSW Australia. The vagaries of life descend upon him, and he reaches for the guidance he overlooked for so long.
A theme which gradually emerges is that of a fringe-dweller struggling with the transition from an idyllic life to an idealistic lifestyle. Blameless, but finds himself on the outskirts of society. In the author's case it is because he has one foot in a nostalgic Greek life, and the other foot in current Australian way of life. The theme is further explored through realisations in candid conversations with incidental acquaintances; their fathers having common beliefs.. Two in particular who are also fringe dwellers, add their own perspectives through their unique experiences.
