CHAPTER 1

Delightful Squish

Two strands of a DK-weight yarn, with just the right amount of texture and hints of lace, come together into the squishiest, most huggable blanket ever.

Skill Level

* * * EASY

Finished Measurement

30 inches square

Materials

3 LIGHT

• James C. Brett Baby Marble DK (DK weight; 100% acrylic; 293 yds/100g per ball): 4 balls #BM1 (MC); 1 ball #BM10 (CC)

• Size 10 (6mm) 29-inch circular needle or size needed to obtain gauge

Gauge

14 sts and 30 rows = 4 inches/10cm in garter st with 2 strands of yarn held tog.

To save time, take time to check gauge.

Special Abbreviations

Knit in front, back and front (kfbf): Knit in front, back, and front again of the next st to inc 2 sts.

Centered Double Decrease (CDD): Slip next 2 sts as if to k2tog, k1, p2sso to dec 2 sts.

Pattern Notes

Blanket is knit with 2 strands of yarn held together and worked diagonally from corner to corner.

A circular needle is used to accommodate the large number of stitches. Do not join.

Tip

A single strand of heavy worsted-weight yarn can easily be substituted for the DK yarn to obtain a slightly lighter feel. You'll need approximately 600 yds/200g of MC and 150 yds/50g of CC in this yarn weight.

Row 8: With MC, *sl 1 wyif, p4; rep from * to last 4 sts, sl 1 wyif, p3.

Rep Rows 1–8 for pat.

Tip

To help reduce the chance for gaps when switching between colors (as well as prevent tangled yarn), cross the new color underneath the old color, work the next stitch, and then bring the new color back around and over the top of the old color to continue working the remaining stitches.

Pattern Notes

The blanket is worked flat. The left side border is worked with a separate ball of yarn. When changing yarns, twist yarns around each other to reduce holes.

While gauge is not critical to this piece, changes to it will result in changes to yarn requirements and size.

Blanket

Bottom Border

With MC, cast on 99 sts. Knit 17 rows.

Body

Row 1 (RS): With MC, k10; join CC and work Row 1 of Lines pat over center 79 sts; join 2nd ball of MC and k10.

Rep [Rows 1–8 of Lines pat] 25 times.

Cut CC and 2nd ball of MC.
