Overview

Other than Bill & Gloria Gaither, the Mike Curb Congregation from the 1970s issued some of the whitest, limpest, most sterile gospel music in the 20th century. This stuff makes Pat Boone sound like C.L. Franklin. Curb issued a bunch of killer cycle records with the trademark voodoo fuzz guitar of Davie Allan & the Arrows in the 1960s -- which appeared on wild B-movie soundtracks for movies like The Wild Angels with Peter Fonda and Nancy Sinatra. Now he runs Curb Records in Nash Vegas and issues country records. But this period, while popular in churches trying to be "contemporary" in the 1970s, put the Jesus movement back 20 years and probably made tons of young people flee in terror of being bubblegummed to death. What's it sound like? Can you imagine the Brady Bunch singing Hank Williams' "I Saw the Light" or the traditional "Love Lifted Me" by the Partridge Family? Yechhhhh! Horrible beyond measure. Enough said. ~ Thom Jurek
