Overview

The Choir of Kings College, Cambridge owes its existence to King Henry VI, who instigated the daily singing of services in his chapel for both entertainment and worship. Known the world over, the ensemble is still representing an important tradition that has been around since the beginning of the College in 1448. Predominantly engaged today for singing religious services, they have garnered international fame with their incredible performances and enthusiastic renditions of popular choral music. Conducted by Stephen Cleobury, the choir performs a selection of works that is challenging, yet very accessible to those not familiar with these hymns. Accompanied by Sioned Williams on harp, Benjamin Bayl, and Thomas Williamson on organ, the sheer power and beauty of the ensemble's range complement the darker textures portrayed by the instrumentalists. Such traditional works as "Morning Has Broken," and "A Mighty Fortress is Our God" grace the album with their simplicity, as well as the tender "The Lord's My Shepherd," and the triumphant "All People That On Earth Do Dwell." Performing with precision and clarity, the ensemble is sure to please aficionados of classic choral music. This will be considered a milestone of the genre for years to come.
