Description: This is a comprehensive manual on critical care therapies for nurses working in a critical care or progressive care setting. The previous edition was published in 2010.
Purpose: The purpose is to provide a handbook and resource manual for all nurses or students working in a critical care/progressive care environment. The objectives are very worthy and always needed.
Audience: The audience includes any nurses interested in the area of critical care. The book specifically targets nurses working at the bedside.
Features: Presenting essential information needed for working in progressive care, the book covers such topics as ventilator care, hemodynamic monitoring, cardiac monitoring, neurological monitoring, renal replacement therapy, and critical care medications. It also presents information on ethics, pain control in critical care, and psychosocial issues, in addition to scenarios on relevant topics and thought-provoking questions.
Assessment: This is a complete and timely book. It includes new information on critical care issues such as pain level assessment, new spinal cord treatments, etc. The book does an excellent job of covering all necessary topics and I would highly recommend it to all nurses in the critical care/progressive care field. The inclusion of new concepts definitely justifies this third edition.
