Overview

I put together this little book of treasures to give back to the Mobile Junior Chamber of Commerce along with the citizens of Mobile to say thank you for opening their hearts to me as the 1965 Mobile's Azalea Trail Queen. A college scholarship, an unbelievable yearly reign, and career doors were opened. It is my hope that you will enjoy some of my favorite memories during my reign, taking in little tidbits of the Azalea Trail's history, meeting the dreamers of 1929, and viewing some of the beautiful faces that I hold dear. I lovingly call my memories "Treasures." I have held them close to my heart all these years and have almost burst waiting to share them. I hope my readers will gobble them up like little morsels of chocolate while relaxing on their sofas or in their easy chairs and that they will be inspired and look forward to our azalea's blooming season each year when "A TOUCH OF PINK" falls upon us. Enjoy!

About the Author

It has been over five decades since I left my unforgettable experience as a high school senior and my reign as Mobile’s Azalea Trail Queen. Moving on to college life was more fun and more rewarding than I could have imagined. I attended Huntingdon College and Auburn University where I was inducted into Alpha Chi Omega Social Sorority. In 1971, I graduated from the University of South Alabama with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology.
During the summer before my senior year of college, I met Ronnie Lee Davis, the love of my life. We married and started a family. We had three amazing daughters, who have given us six incredible grandchildren. Becoming a mom and a grand mom are absolutely the most rewarding experiences of my life. Setting good examples for them has been mine and my husband’s main goal in life.
I became a mom during the height of the Equal Rights for Women movement in the seventies. Growing up during the struggles of the Civil Rights Movement in the sixties and taking to heart the lessons that my parents taught me, left me with a burning desire to stand up for what is right. I am fortunate to be married to a wonderful man who shares the same desires and goals. We were both taught by our parents that we are all equal no matter our gender or the color of our skin. We in turn taught our daughters to love others for what is in their hearts. They have in turn taught their children the same. What a legacy . . . I am so proud! Two decades later I retired to spend time with my grandchildren and experience the joy that my grandmother had often exclaimed that she enjoyed spending time with me. In 2005, I came out of retirement after Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulf Coast to work in the litigation department of an insurance adjusting company to assist in getting people’s lives back together. Katrina was no respecter of people. Homes and businesses of folks from all walks of life and skin color were literally swept away. I cried and grieved along with these poor souls listening to their stories of how their lives had changed forever. I hope they knew my tears were real. I hope they knew my grief was sincere. After retiring for the last time, I still carry their stories within my heart.
