Book Nerd Tweets of the Week: In Bed with an Author Edition
Twitter just informed me that today is #readabookday so everything is cancelled and I'm going back to bed with David Sedaris.

This past week saw #ReadaBookDay. Or #NationalReadaBookDay. Whichever you prefer. It’s an entirely made-up, if nonetheless worthwhile holiday.

Can’t go wrong with a cat reading a book:

(The cats with whom I’ve spent any time would all rather celebrate #SitOnaBookDay, but far be it for me to stereotype.)
In conclusion:
Every day should be #readabookday.

This week also saw the 50th year of split infinitives from a beloved media franchise that’s been known to boldly go on any number of occasions. It’s not strictly a literary thing, but there are about a million Star Trek books, many of them wonderful, and Trek’s influence on science fiction in lit is undeniable.
In other news, Star Trek premiered 50 years ago today. Thanks to everyone involved in it. Obviously I'm super grateful it exists.

With that in mind: HASHTAG MASHUP time!

Notoriously wordy (in a good way!) writer Alan Moore has a new novel out this week, and it is unsurprisingly dense. In a world of quick and disposable entertainment, this strikes me as a good thing. Still: it’s a big book.
Well there's a turn-up for the books. #squeeee pic.twitter.com/Eut81s0OiX

Hefty tomes…yay or nay? (I like big books. Cannot lie.)

Finally: this week’s #shelfie comes from author John Scalzi. You might find it wanting for lack of actual shelves; for the rest of us, who go through life surrounded by piles of books in a manner both glorious and oh-so-stressful, perversely making little shrines to chaos from the very substance of civilization, gleefully defying poor Marie Kondo while secretly bemoaning this cursed laziness…
Well, let’s just call it a shelfie for the rest of us.
