Overview

The Hubble Telescope has enabled us to see what we could only see dimly before and sometimes to see what we had never seen before. After reading "Astrophysics for People in a Hurry" by Neil deGrasse Tyson, I was inspired to think about the time before time; i.e. the time before "The Big Bang". With some ESA/Hubble images for inspiration I jotted down some of my musings and then decided to share them.

I recommend you spend some time pondering these magnificent images and have your own musings about the time before time.

About the Author

John Sutherland is a native son of Florence at the Shoals, Alabama where he lives with his wife and four dogs: Tinker Belle, a fourteen year old tea cup chihuahua ( now more like a tea pot chihuahua); LuLu, a ten year old beagle fox hound mix( or as my wife prefers, a long legged beagle); Sam (Samantha), a six year old wire hair terrier and Happy, a three year old Lab. We also have three children and nine grandchildren aged from two years old to twenty to help keep us young. We also have moles, chipmunks, squirrels and birds to add color and excitement to our back yard. In addition to playing in the dirt I enjoy fishing, thinking original thoughts and building scale models of the Great Pyramid.

Epilogue

I didn’t write a foreword or introduction because I didn’t want to influence your experience of these images; because it is, after all, all about the images. I think they are magnificent and I am truly grateful to ESA/Hubble for the opportunity to share them and make comments.

I hope their exposure to you has created in you enough curiosity to buy the companion volume, About the images in Overheard Before “The Big Bang” which provides information about each image including comments from astronomers about how the image was made and what it represents.

Also information like the name of the object in the image, type: i.e. Milky Way: Star: Grouping: Cluster: Open, Nebula. The distance from earth and the constellation and category are also identified.

If you are interested in providing your own witty sayings for Overheard Before “The Big Bang”part 2, send them to me at iatjohn@aol.com and the editorial board will consider them for inclusion in part 2. I also have a volume called “…The Heavens Shall Proclaim The Glory of the Lord…” which will be available soon.
