Overview

How does the bundle of nerve tissues that we call the brain acquire the qualities we refer to as a mind? At what point does gray matter give rise to consciousness, personality, and identity? What basic biological processes synergize to give us memory, make us appreciate fine art, allow us to feel wonder, or compel us to express love?

Intro to Mind & Brain examines the profound and mysterious relationship between the brain and thought. It traces the historical development of scientific and philosophical ideas about the brain and its function from antiquity to modern times. Combining the stimulating prose of science writer Angus Gellatly with the dynamic graphic art of Oscar Zarate, this book offers insights into action, language, emotion, and all five senses, and is sure to provoke further thought and reflection.
