The Pulitzer Prize presents awards in the categories of Fiction, Drama, History, Biography, Poetry, General Nonfiction, and Music. This year's Pulitzer Prize in Fiction went to Colson Whitehead for The Underground Railroad. 

Bob Dylan

The 2016 Nobel Prize in Literature has been awarded to Bob Dylan (b. 1941). The Academy noted that the famed musician won the award "for having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition." He is the first American to win the prize since Toni Morrison in 1993. 

The National Book Awards are the nation's preeminent literary prizes, honoring outstanding Fiction, Young People's Literature, Poetry, and Nonfiction. This year's fiction prize went to Colson Whitehead for The Underground Railroad

The Sellout
The prestigious Man Booker Prize is given for a novel written in English. This year's winner is Paul Beatty, whose novel The Sellout is a satire of US racial politics. He is the first American writer to win the award.
