From the Quicklet on It’s a Wonderful Life:

Every year around Christmas time there are a few movies that families all around the world like to pop into the DVD player—and Frank Capra’s It’s a Wonderful Life is certainly one of them. This story about a man who gets the chance to see what life would be like if he was never born is a rich, feel-good tale that American families have adored for well over half a century now.

With a production budget of just over 3 million dollars, It’s a Wonderful Life has grossed about 6.5 million dollars and another 20 million in domestic DVD sales.

At the Academy Awards, It’s a Wonderful Life earned five nominations, including Best Actor in a Leading Role (James Stewart as George Bailey), Best Director (Frank Capra), Best Film Editing (William Hornbeck), Best Sound (John Aalberg) and Best Picture. The American Film Institute (AFI) has ranked It’s a Wonderful Life the 20th best film of all time in its “100 Years, 100 Movies” list. AFI also ranks the protagonist of the film, George Bailey, as the 9th greatest hero in American cinema and Mr. Potter (the film’s antagonist) as the 6th greatest villain of all time. AFI ranked It’s a Wonderful Life as the No. 1 Most Inspirational Film. AFI rankedIt’s a Wonderful Life as the 3rd best fantasy film of all time. AFI also ranked the film the Most Powerful Movie of All Time. The Internet Movie Database (IMDB) ranks It’s a Wonderful Life as the 30th best film of all time.

From the Quicklet on Casablanca:

Casablanca is one of my favorite films of all time. It’s one of my favorite films because of the fact that it seems to magically to defy genre. All at once, Casablanca offers elements of drama, romance, suspense, comedy, and war. By doing this, Casablanca has something for everyone, regardless of what your movie preferences might be.

But what’s most amazing about Casablanca is not just that it defies genre, but that it does so in a way that actually enhances my viewing experience. I love the witty quips that Humphrey Bogart delivers as the smooth-talking Rick. I love the historical backdrop of World War II. I love the desperate romance between Ilsa and Rick. I love the corrupt yet likable Captain Renault. And I love the suspenseful plot that keeps you guessing until the very end. I love it all. The characters, the story, the direction, the music, the black and white film.

It’s not always easy to explain why a film has come to be known as one of the “all-time greats.” That is, the explanations never truly do the film justice. All I can say is that you owe it to yourself to see Casablanca. Once you do, you’ll understand its appeal. And I bet you’ll love it too.

From the Quicklet on Forrest Gump:

Jenny’s sudden departure leaves Forrest in shock. One day, he decides to go for a run – down the road, then to the end of town, through Greenbow County, across the state, until he reaches the Pacific Ocean. Having reached one coast, he turns around and heads east until he hits the Atlantic. Forrest crisscrosses the nation on foot, passing through every type of American landscape, his hair and beard growing with each step.

Soon, Forrest’s cross-country journey begins to garner media attention. Reporters attempt to uncover the reason behind his run, but, he insists, there is none. Jenny, now a waitress, even sees him on the news.

Over time, Forrest attracts followers: some ordinary people inspired by his actions who want to join his run, others entrepreneurs who need his help. One such man is looking for a bumper sticker idea and another for a t-shirt design. Unwittingly, Forrest gives both what they are looking for.
