About the Author

The author began his formal writing career after retiring from his professional career as a manufacturing executive. He and his wife traveled extensively in their RV and developed an interest in antiques and flea markets. His wife had started a modest thimble collection several years before they began their US and Canada travel. The purchase of a few thimbles here and there soon turned his wife's collection into the thousands! It was then that the author began a genuine interest in thimbles and began researching materials that eventually resulted in him and his wife publishing their first thimble book, 'A Beginner's Guide To Thimble Collecting'.

When his wife's thimble collection began to accrue sufficient value, the author began photographing, listing, and placing an estimated value on her thimbles for insurance purposes. It was then that the significance of Gish thimbles began to catch his attention. His wife, after collecting several dozen of the Gish creations, wondered if a catalog of his works existed somewhere. The author began searching for an answer. After thoroughly researching the internet and when other venues produced no insight into this question, the idea of creating the first Gish catalog originated.

The author wants this publication to be a tribute to the artistry of Nicholas Gish and the employees in his company who so aptly designed and manufactured tens of thousands of thimbles that are now collected worldwide. Gish thimbles are still sought today by collectors for their value and beauty. One only has to watch the bidding activity on eBay to appreciate how these thimbles are appreciating in value year after year.

The author also hopes this catalog will serve as an assist to the avid Gish thimble collector who wants to identify and validate thimbles that are offered for sale that may not be listed as a Gish when advertised, such as those frequently found in thimble lots for sale.
