About the Author

Grace Livingston Hill is a pioneer of inspirational literature. Her characters hold onto their spirituality, even in the face of adversity. They do what is right, when others would do what was easy. Hill wrote over 100 novels, and came from a family of writers, including both parents, an aunt, and her daughter.

B. M. Bower (Bertha Muzzy) used her initials, to keep it a secret that she was a woman author of westerns. She used her own life on a ranch in Montana , and her wide ranging travels to inspire her novels. She wrote 68 novels, and even had one made into a film ("Ridin' Thunder"). Bower could write adeptly about comedy, serious situations, the frontier spirit, or romance.

Zane Grey met his wife Lina Roth on a trip to fish the upper Delaware River. Lina edited Zane's work and helped make his first western "Heritage of the Desert" into a bestseller. Zane quit his job as a dentist (which he had done to please his father) and launched into a writing career. His most famous book is "Riders of the Purple Sage". In the sequel, "The Rainbow Trail", we find out what happens to Jane and Lassiter in Surprise Valley. His writing has been made into 112 movies and three TV series.

Honore Willsie Morrow lived in Arizona, and part of the time in England. She was an expert in Abraham Lincoln, which inspired her book trilogy. Honore was editor of the women's magazine "Delineator". She married famous publisher, William Morrow.

William Macleod Raine was born in London, but moved to a cattle ranch near the Texas-Arkansas border. Raine is included in the hall of Great Westerners at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage museum. He worked as a reporter and established the first journalism course at the University of Colorado. Twenty of his novels have been made into films

Elinore Pruitt Stewart's homestead is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Her letters became the basis for the movie, "Heartland" and showed the important role women homesteaders played in the West.
