About the Author

Robert Allen (Bob) Eckess was born to Donald and Victoria Eckess in Prince Rupert, BC, on November 30, 1951. At the age of ten, the family moved to Terrace, BC, with stepfather Louis Kasum and at the age of sixteen moved to Stewart, BC. Once in Stewart, he worked logging the Bitter Creek Valley, winter came, and someone had to stay, maintain, and shovel the camp. Bob was elected. He worked many small jobs till hired by Shell Canada as a warehouseman and then manager.
In 1979 was hired by Arrow Transportation Systems as a dispatcher. Then in 1981 was hired by Scottie Gold Resources as the office administrator. Scottie closed down in the spring of 1985. After that, Bob, wife Jennifer, and father-in-law Edward Smith Sr. bought the Shell Gas Station in Stewart, and a year later, they bought the Trailer Court.
In 1992 he converted the Trailer Court into an RV Park and, in 2005, sold both the Gas Station and RV Park and kept his accounting practice going.
In 1998 started talking to the Stewart Old timers about the early history of Stewart and collecting info and photos. After many years of collecting and seeing that history was slowly disappearing decided to build a website to keep the history alive. Then after many years decided to publish a book of the same.
