Overview

1940s' New York. Flashes go off around the city as bodies pile up and local papers battle to feed the public’s demand for sensationalism. The one and only Lou Cale is one of these notorious shutterbugs, but Lou also keeps his ear to the ground, often picking up on crime scene details that go unseen by the authorities, and which lead him into his own dogged investigations. From mysterious suicides, scalped corpses and stolen Oriental treasures, to racist hangings and mob assassinations, tough nut Lou fights his way through a bevy of beauties and a whole bunch of crooks, to get to the truth.

About the Author

Éric Warnauts, brother of Marc-Renier, published his first pages in the fanzine Oufti after his studies at Institut Saint-Luc in Liège. He followed up with Passion Vinyle for Futuropolis, and Take the Moon and Moonlight Serenades for Le Mirroir. In 1986, Warnauts worked on Les Enquêtes de Pat Archer in l'Écho des Savanes. In 1987 he started a longtime collaboration with Raives, with whom he created numerous series, such as Lou Cale, Un diamant sous la Lune, L'Orfèvre and Les Suites Vénitiennes.
Guy Servais, known as Raives, was born 1959 in Belgium. He is a frequent collaborator of Eric Warnauts, which began when Warnauts wrote Paris-Perdu, which was illustrated by Raives in 1985. Since then, they have continued to work together, sharing duties as artist and writer, beginning with the series Lou Cale, followed by Les Suites Vénitiennes and Un Diamant sous la Lune. In 1999, Raives and Warnauts teamed up with scenarist Michel Vandam to produce Kin la Belle. Raives is also a colorist, among others on Jean-Claude Servais' La Mémoire des Arbres.
