About the Author

Dave started his fire service career with the Unit ed States Air (USAF) and after the USAF spent seven years as a fire officer and training/safety officer for the Parker, Colorado Fire District. He then became the first career training officer for Loveland, Colorado Fire and Rescue Department and rose through the ranks as a company officer, hazardous materials technician, and emergency manager for the city of Loveland, Colorado. He also served as a shift battalion chief with Eagle River, Colorado FIre District. He currently owns his own company, Response Solutions, which is dedicated to teaching firefighter safety and practical incident handling. Dave has served as the chair of the NFPA 1521 Task Group and served on the NFPA Fire Service Occupational Safety and Health Technical Committee. He also works closely with the Fire Department Incident Safety Officers Association. Dave is the course developer for the popular Incident Safety Officer Academy and the Art of Reading Smoke progams and has presented to well over 20,000 fire officers in North America. Dave is a nationally respected author.
