In her first book, jewelry designer Shaw explores variations on right-angle weave (RAW), including double diamond RAW, which adds four additional beads to the standard four-bead RAW unit; faux RAW, which has a similar look to traditional RAW with a slightly different structure; and layered RAW, which builds on the faux RAW to create a ropelike structure. Each of the new techniques is presented as a tutorial for a small, simple project, followed by a series of projects incorporating the new technique as well as other off-loom beadweaving stitches. The projects include necklaces, bracelets, and earrings featuring seed beads with a variety of focal beads, cabochons, pearls, and rivolis. The stitches are diagrammed using standard illustrations, with arrows highlighting the stitch path and callouts for small detailed work. There's a nice variety of styles, from simple and understated to bold focal pieces, and adjustments to bead color and type potentially yield further variation. VERDICT RAW is popular for its versatility, and Shaw's variations on this tried-and-true technique will appeal to advanced beginners and beyond.
