About the Author

I was born in Sidney, Nebraska, and raised on a farm west of town, where my heart often returns. I have also grown to love my South Dakota home of over forty years.

In response to the overwhelming grief I felt at the sudden death of a beloved eighteen-month-old cousin, Elaine Schumacher, I wrote my first poem when I was 12 and gave it to her mother. Setting down those rows of words gave me some comfort and through the years I have turned to poetry in times of sorrow and in joy.

Reading and writing poetry has enriched the years working as a nurse and raising our family of four children. I live with my husband Gene in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where I continue the pleasure of putting down words and sharing them with writing friends.
